Organic Synthesis Intermediates: Widely used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, veterinary drugs, and feed additives, such as as an intermediate for the fungicide methylpyrazine and the herbicide pyrimethanil.
Metal Complexing Agents and Extractants: Can form stable chelates with various metal ions, used for:
* Extraction of aluminum from tungsten and molybdenum
* Colorimetric determination of metal ions such as iron, fluorine, and thallium
Solvents: Used as a solvent for cellulose acetate, as well as for polymers and adhesives.
Additives:
* Gasoline and lubricating oil additives
* Drying agents for coatings, varnishes, and inks
Catalyst Components: Used in the preparation of high thermal stability copolymers and high flame retardant polymers in injection molding, and as catalysts for petroleum cracking, hydrogenation, and carbonylation reactions.
