Propanoic Acid Applications
Propionic acid is an important fine chemical, mainly used as a food and feed additive. Calcium propionate and sodium propionate prevent food spoilage caused by microorganisms and are used to preserve bread and pastries.
Propionic acid, sodium propionate, and calcium propionate are all good feed preservatives, widely used for preserving feed for pigs, cattle, sheep, and poultry.
Propionic esters can be used as solvents, fragrances, pharmaceutical intermediates, and cosmetic additives.
Propionic acid derivatives such as 2-chloropropionic acid, 2-bromopropionic acid, 3-chloropropionic acid, propionitrile, and propionyl chloride are used in the production of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, herbicides, food fortifiers, and fragrances.
Propanoic Acid Storage:
Store separately from oxidizers, reducing agents, and alkalis. Do not mix with other substances. Keep containers sealed. Store in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse, away from fire and heat sources. The storage area should be equipped with spill response equipment and suitable containment materials.
