Propionaldehyde Applications
Propionaldehyde is a key raw material for the production of n-propanol, propionic acid (a preservative), dimethylolpropionic acid (a waterborne polyurethane raw material), methyl methacrylate (a monomer for plexiglass), trimethylolethane (a resin raw material), and acetone oxime (a water treatment agent).
Propionaldehyde is also a polymerization inhibitor in the production of polyethylene, as well as an accelerator and antioxidant in the synthesis of resins and rubber. It can also be used as an antifreeze, lubricant, and dehydrating agent. Propanal is widely used in the pharmaceutical, paint, plastics, fragrance, rubber, and food and feed industries, and is a recognized fundamental raw material for the fine chemical industry.
