Resorcinol Formaldehyde Resin
(Adhesive resin)
Resorcinol formaldehyde resin is a water-soluble room-temperature curing adhesive produced by the initial polycondensation of resorcinol and formaldehyde. It is particularly suitable for wood gluing and nylon cord fabric to rubber bonding that require low-temperature curing. It has high bonding strength, water resistance and heat resistance.
The resin can be prepared into a low-toxic, environmentally friendly adhesive by adjusting the raw material molar ratio (e.g., resorcinol:formaldehyde = 1.0:2.0) and additives (such as sesbania gum and diatomaceous earth). It cures in 7.2 minutes and emits 0.28 mg/L of formaldehyde. In the field of photocatalysis, a sandwich catalyst based on this resin achieves a solar energy conversion efficiency of 1.23%, with an anthraquinone-modified version exhibiting a fourfold increase in activity. When used as a catalyst structure modifier, it can improve cobalt dispersion and selectivity for higher-carbon hydrocarbons. Resorcinol-phenol-formaldehyde resin (RPF) uses nanomagnesium hydroxide as a curing agent to reduce free formaldehyde, resulting in a bond with a dry strength exceeding 10 MPa.

Application Characteristics:
It replaces the fuming and toxic resorcinol. When combined with methylene donors such as HMT and RA65, they form a resorcinol-formaldehyde-silica (RFS) adhesion system.
This system enhances the adhesion between rubber and structural materials such as steel wire, cord, and nylon.
When used as a wood bond, it exhibits high strength, water resistance, and heat resistance, making it an indispensable adhesive for bonding nylon cord fabric to rubber.
