Quinoline (CAS 91-22-5) is an aromatic heterocyclic compound consisting of a benzene ring fused to a pyridine ring.
Quinoline is a colorless to pale yellow liquid and an aromatic compound. It is miscible with alcohols, ethers, and carbon disulfide; it is readily soluble in hot water but only slightly soluble in cold water. It is hygroscopic—capable of absorbing moisture from the air until its water content reaches 22%—and is volatile with steam.

Applications of Quinoline
1. Quinoline is used in the preparation of nicotinic acid-type and hydroxyquinoline-type drugs, cyanine dyes and photosensitive pigments, rubber accelerators, and agricultural chemicals such as copper 8-hydroxyquinolinate.
2. It serves as a reagent for organic synthesis, a basic condensing agent, and a solvent.
3. It is used as an analytical reagent and solvent, and also for the separation of vanadates and arsenates.
4. It is used to produce cardiotonic agents and functions as an acid, solvent, and preservative. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used to manufacture nicotinic acid-type and 8-hydroxyquinoline-type drugs; in the printing and dyeing industry, it is used to produce cyanine dyes and photosensitive pigments; in the rubber industry, it is used to create accelerators; and in agriculture, it is used to produce pesticides such as copper 8-hydroxyquinolinate.
