Methyltetrahydrophthalic Anhydride, CAS 11070-44-3, is an organic acid anhydride with the molecular formula C9H10O3 and a molecular weight of 166.17. It is also known as Tetrahydromethylphthalic Anhydride, Methyltetrahydroisophthalic Anhydride and Methylcyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic Anhydride.

MTHPA is commonly supplied as a colorless to pale yellow liquid and is widely used as an anhydride curing agent for epoxy resin systems.

Methyltetrahydrophthalic Anhydride reacts with epoxy resins to form cured thermosetting materials with good electrical insulation, mechanical strength and thermal performance. It is particularly suitable for casting, encapsulation and electrical insulation applications.

Applications of Methyltetrahydrophthalic Anhydride

Used in epoxy resin curing agents, solvent-free paints, laminates, epoxy adhesives, etc. As an epoxy resin curing agent, it offers excellent properties, including long-term room-temperature stability, a low freezing point, low volatility, and low toxicity.

It is widely used in the impregnation, casting and winding of motors, dry-type transformers, high-voltage switches, instrument transformers, line output transformers, household appliance capacitors, power capacitors and resistors, and integrated circuits.
