Description

Titanium dioxide, TiO2, is a white powder and has the greatest hiding power of all white pigments. It is noncombustible; however, it is a powder and, when suspended in air, may cause a dust explosion if an ignition source is present. It is not listed in the DOT Hazardous Materials Table, and the DOT does not consider it hazardous in transportation. The primary uses are as a white pigment in paints, paper, rubber, and plastics; in cosmetics; in welding rods; and in radioactive decontamination of the skin.

Application

1.This versatile substance finds application as a reagent for spectral analysis and in the preparation of high-purity titanium salt, pigments, polyethylene coloring agents, and abrasive agents. Moreover, it has uses in the pharmaceutical industry, capacitive media, high-temperature resistant alloys, and high-temperature resistant titanium sponges.

2.Its wide array of applications includes the production of titanium dioxide, titanium sponge, titanium alloy, artificial rutile, titanium tetrachloride, titanium oxide sulfate, potassium fluorinate, and aluminum titanium chloride. Titanium dioxide, derived from this element, serves as a critical ingredient in high-grade white paint, white rubber, synthetic fiber, coatings, welding rods, rayon dimming agents, plastics, high-grade paper fillers, and even telecommunications equipment, metallurgy, printing, printing and dyeing, enamel, and various other industries. Rutile, also obtained from titanium, is a primary mineral raw material for extracting titanium. Furthermore, titanium and its alloys possess exceptional properties such as high strength, low density, corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, low-temperature resistance, and non-toxicity, and they serve vital functions such as gas absorption and superconductivity. These remarkable attributes make them indispensable in aviation, chemical industry, light industry, navigation, medical fields, national defense, and Marine resources development. Additionally, over 90% of the world’s titanium minerals produce titanium dioxide white pigments, which are increasingly adopted across paint, rubber, plastics, paper, and other industries.

Titanium Oxide has numerous applications across various industries. Some of the primary applications include:

Paints and Coatings: Titanium Oxide is extensively used as a pigment in paints, coatings, and other surface treatments due to its excellent opacity, brightness, and color retention properties.

Plastics and Polymers: It is widely utilized as a whitening agent and UV stabilizer in plastics and polymers, enhancing their durability and resistance to discoloration caused by sunlight exposure.

Paper and Printing: Titanium Oxide is added to paper and printing inks to improve their whiteness, opacity, and printability.

Cosmetics and Personal Care: It is a common ingredient in cosmetics, sunscreens, and skin care products due to its ability to reflect and scatter UV radiation, protecting against sunburn.

Food and Pharmaceuticals: Titanium Oxide is used in food and pharmaceutical applications as a colorant and opacifying agent in products such as candies, chewing gums, and tablets.

Storge & Handling

Titanium Oxide should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat sources or ignition. It is recommended to keep it in tightly sealed containers to prevent contamination and preserve its quality.
