Calcium nitrate is a colorless crystal, easy to deliquescence, melting point 45℃, D1860.It is soluble in water, ethanol, methanol, acetone, and almost insoluble in nitric acid.Its 5% aqueous solution (in anhydrous matter) has a pH of 6.
It is a strong oxidant, decomposed by heat, giving off oxygen.
Calcium nitrate can be mixed with reducing agent, organic matter, flammable material, phosphorus or metal powder to form explosive mixtures.
When calcium nitrate is burned and decomposed, toxic nitrogen oxide gas is given off.
Calcium nitrate is decomposed by high heat and produces toxic nitrogen oxidest.

3.Product Feature And Application of Calcium Nitrate
1)Used as a solid fertiliser for side dressing for high value horticultural crops such as market gardens and berryfruit crops. As this product is highly soluble, it can also be used for fertigation as a source of calcium and nitrate-nitrogen for high value horticultural crops. The nitrate-nitrogen is immediately available for plant uptake, while the calcium is provided in a readily soluble form.
2)Calcium nitrate is used in waste water pre-conditioning for odour emission prevention.
3.Calcium nitrate is used in set accelerating concrete admixtures.
4)The dissolution of calcium nitrate tetrahydrate is highly endothermic (cooling).
5)Calcium nitrate together with Potassium and Sodium nitrate is used to absorb and store energy in the Concentrated Solar Power plants. It can be used as a heat transfer fluid instead of the thermal oil.
